How can your major make the world a better place

 Biochemistry is presente in many areas: health, biotechnology, mining, agriculture, patents and intellectual property, forensic medicine, archeology, etc.

Thanks to biochemestry it has been possible to create treatments for diabetes, heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, liver diseasen and cancer. And right now biocheminsts have played a very important role in the management of pandemic, thanks to their research it has been possible to create vaccines for Covid-19.

The role of biochemists is fundamental because without their intervetion there would no diagnosis that would allow a projection of the disease and without this a cure, drug or treatment could not be created.

Biochemists' research also studies serious diseases such as cancer and Alzheimer's, and thanks to this research it has been possible to create treatments and in the future perhaps a cure will be found, so the role of the biochemist is very important in the world and helps to make it a better place.

In the future I would like to work researching cures and treatments for diseases, I want to be able to help people live a better life, without pain and healthy.

A meal or food I really like

I don't really have a favorite kind of food, it's very hard to choose one when I like almost all of them; I really like pasta, with tomato sauce, cream and mushrooms or just with cheese, there are so many different ways to eat pasta that I love, I also really like pizza, mashed potatoes and rice. I am a vegetarian so, I eat a lot of vegetables and legumes, my favorites are broccoli, cabbage and black beans, my mom cooks very well so everything she makes is delicious and that's why I like so many different kinds of food. Now we are in tangerine season, I love tangerines, they are my favorite fruit along with raspberries. I also love chocolate it's something I couldn't live without. As I am a vegetarian I care a lot about having a balanced diet so I eat fruits and vegetables every day, plus I eat legumes quite often. Since I stopped eating meat I feel more energetic and much healthier.

A photo and its story

This photo is very important for me, it was the first concert I went to, so it was a very special moment, Green Day was my favorite band at that time, and when they gave me the tickets for the concert I was very happy and excited, that day has been one of the happiest of my life, I had a great time and I will always remember that moment. This photo is from 2017, the concert was on a Saturday and since it was in Santiago I had to travel there on Friday, I still remember that a few days later I had a presentation at school and my friends told me not to shout too much at the concert to take care of my voice. I went to the concert with my godmother, she has been in all the important moments of my life, so that day was very special. I had a great time that day it was a lot of fun and I would like to go to a concert again. Who I am?

  Hi!! my name is Antonia and I am 18 years old, I live near Chillán, but I was born and I spent my childhood in Santiago. Now I´m in the second year of biochemistry at university. I have been a vegetarian for two years, but my goal is to become a vegan, I love animals specially my dog named Estrella, I live with her and my mom, it is a small family but with a lot of love. My tastes in music are very diverse, but mainly I listen to pop music. I really like drawing and painting, it´s one of my hobbies that I dedicate the most time to, I also like watching Netflix and Disney, my favorite series is Friends and my favorite movie is The lion king.
